If an enemy ship can not penetrate one's shields and can't do hull damage, you can stay in combat indefinitely unless they jump. The cheat has been tested with the release version of the game and v 1.
The game is just repeating a timeline to unlock ships and doing it again, skipping this pretty much makes playing the game pointless. It goes against the intentions of the developer's desire for the player to experience permanent death, a standard feature of many games.
